This analysis technique consists of subjecting the sample to a controlled thermal cycle (generally scanning at temperature in a specified atmospher). Applied to polymers (thermoplastics, elastomers and thermosets), DSC reveals the thermal characteristics related to the change of physical state (fusion/crystallization and glass transition) or chemical state (crosslinking and oxidation).
Results: glass transition temperature, fusion temperature and enthalpy, crystallinity level, heat capacity and the temperatures of crosslinking, evaporation and foam expansion.
